September is around the corner and so is the start of a new term at De Montfort University. For first-year students this is an exciting time, as there are so many activities and events planned to help you settle right in. For second-year students, it’s time to really start to show off your talent and put in that hard work, as now your grades start to count towards that all-important final-year mark! And for third-year students, it’s your final year! A time of nerves, stress and excitement, and your last year is going to have come and gone before you even realize.
From when you start at university, you hear that it’s going to be the best time of your life, which is true, except you probably won’t realize it until it’s over. That is why you have to make the most out of your university experience, and it doesn’t matter if you’re in your third year, it’s not too late, the university provides so many great experiences for you, so take advantage of everything that comes your way, because who knows, that one event or lecture that you go to could pave the way for your future career successes.
This year DMU is going to kick-start with a welcome weekend for all you new and exciting fresh faces (first-year students), on the 21st and 22nd of September. There will be a real festival atmosphere, with entertainment from our best clubs and societies, including our amazing Gospel Choir, Britain’s Got Talent stars the DMU Steppers, regional cheerleading champions the DMU Saints, and the Bhangra Society, who performed for Prince Edward earlier this year, and it doesn’t stop there. Freshers’ week and enrolment week commences on the 23rd September, that week is guaranteed to be a massive jam-packed week so make sure you look out for the Freshers’ guide to find out about everything that’s happening. This week isn’t just about getting to know your surroundings; it’s about putting yourself out there and making friends, don’t be scared to approach the odd person. Chances are they’ll end up being your friend for the rest of your life. Just remember when you start that everyone is in the same boat, so make sure you use this week to enjoy, before your lectures, seminars and workshops begin!
